Chesty was a 2nd Lieutenant in 1918, reverted to Corporal after the war, Commissioned again in 1924 after heroic service in Haiti. He later served in Nicaragua, China, World War II, and Korea. Awarded five Navy Crosses and One Distinguished Service Cross (Army).
