Subject:  Status Update, Gen Carl Mundy

My sister, brother, and I wrote the note below. So, unfortunately, I can verify its accuracy. We're all with my father now, making the most of his final days and hours.

Feel free to distribute this. In fact, because you have likely the most complete list of Auburn comrades, please pass it along that circuit as well. I'd like friends to be aware of what's happening and while we've been in contact with close friends like the Davis' and Bianca's, I realize we're missing many who will eventually see this.

Thanks and Semper Fidelis,
Tim

Col. T. S. Mundy

Subject: Status Update
Our father asked that we send you a compassionate update.  So using the metaphor of his first email we write to inform you that the fire support provided by recent chemotherapy did not achieve the desired result.  Although it hit the target, the Merkel Cell proved to be quite resilient, and the disease rebounded quicker than expected.  It has now gained a position of overwhelming strength.  Sadly, our father does not have a possibility of surviving in his current defensive position.  He nonetheless draws hope knowing that in due time he will withdraw to a new position, a position of unassailable strength, and link up with the legion of Marines who have gone before him, and together they will march in glory and victory to a banquet set by the King of kings.

Friends, our father is deeply appreciative of the hundreds of you who have called and sent a steady stream of cards, letters, and emails. Unfortunately the disease has progressed to a point where he is sleeping most of the time. While very small windows of alertness surface each day, he is simply no longer able to respond, but we read and relay your thoughts, prayers, and special anecdotes as joyous reminders of the people in his life.

We cannot thank you enough for your constant support over the past year, especially these last few weeks.  Your thoughts and prayers have sustained the entire Mundy family while we face this challenge.

Going forward, please know that you remain in our own thoughts and prayers because of the special place each of you holds in our father’s life as beloved family and life-long friends. We—Betsy, Sam, and Tim—will continue to communicate as events unfold over the upcoming days and weeks and appreciate being able to draw from your ongoing love and support during these difficult days.
